There were a lot of words because there were a lot of different types of vassals. The general word for a slave or a subject was bo'ol. Otogus bo'ol were entire vassal clans. Powerful warlords and khans also had turghaqs, which were young boys that were given to them as vassals by their parents. The word is usually translated as "hostage" but they weren't really prisoners. They were more like knights serving in the courts of powerful lords. Temujin and Jamukha were both turghaqs of Toghrul Khan.
