After bringing up an old discussion I had with my wife (half Chinese) in regards to Modu Shanyu's hairstyle in the Disney movie "Mulan" in 1998. She recommended a movie in which she watched before while I was at work (explains the download limit exceeded). However tonite I watched it together with her and I thought - WAT A d**n GREAT MOVIE. Even if historically Hua Mulan was a fictional character in a Chinese poem. The story I always found brilliant, the 2009 film by Chinese filmmakers however have captured this brilliantly from poetry to film -> Establishing Wei Kingdom's struggle with Mulan against nomadic Rouran in the film, it's fictional, but very believable. I also appreciated they didn't portray nomadic people as ruthless barbarians except for one character (Rouran prince who killed his father to become the new Shanyu). They respected nomadism quite well in this film and it's theme is more about war and soldiery then conquests. The end result is peace between sedentary folks and the nomads. I found this beautiful. Here's a track from the film I just found on youtube too (featuring many of the scenes from the film): www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qem3EKnH1kEI recommend this film. It's touching, moving, and beautiful. I'm glad wifey got me to watch this. Freakin... wouldn't expect THIS from Hujaa. But meh, guess hujaa aint that bad, I'm married to one xD

;D Personally, I thought it's just another Chinese propaganda movie. And yes, Rouran are portrayed their as ruthless Barbarians who just "pillage for pillage."
But, have you seen the crazy Russian-Latvian singer in the movie who played the old Rouran ruler, foreign servant?

Oh come on lol! We nomads have to take what we can get from foreign media!!! Disney's cartoon Mulan degraded nomads SO MUCH MORE then this film - which actually shows humanity amongst nomads.
Oh that guy, he looked a tad different from the Chinese actors during the film, who was he? lol
