Timurlane and the people of his kind, of what ethnicity were they? Mongol and Turkic but was it mostly turkic as it was what they spoke? Or still "pure mongols" among them? And wich turkic people was it the mongols mixed with? if it was the way it happend.
I have hard to find information about him and his empire. Anyone knows any good webpage?
Where they still mostly nomads?
And warefare. Was it like a more modern Mongol style of warfare? Or how did they fight? It wasent like a Ottoman army with that much infantry?

He was from the Barulas tribe of the Mongols, but he was heavily Turkified and he was speaking the Turkic dialect which is known as Chaghatai Turkic.

He is usually referred to as "Turko-Mongol." Though, it seems that culturally he was more Turkic.

Heh it's not a joke, seriously from what I've seen of the forum, amount of knowledge I've concluded, and your objectivism compared to many others - if anyone I know should publish a book called "Steppe FAQ" to reduce the level of ignorance of the world in regards to steppe history - it would be you. I'm not just saying this as a friend, but one who acknowledges your ability.

Thanks for the answers How about his warriors where did he take them from? where they mostly from turkish tribes? Did he have mongols in his army too? turkified mongols as himself?
The lands where Timur came from, what ppl lives there now? he was born near samarkand? seems like a place that have changed rulers a few times.
maybe not this topic but did babur and the moghuls also speak he chagatai? did it not develop in the chagatai khanate? And how come all Mongol Khanates were turkified. They never tried to mongolise other people? I read the did not want foringers to know their language, has it something to do with that?

He was born in the town of Kiš (Kesh, modern Šahrisabz): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShahrisabzTransoxiana is now mostly Uzbekistan, with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan also sharing some parts. You can check these areas populations from Wikipedia. Yes. Only the Qïpčaq Khanate (Golden Horde, House of Joči) and the Čaġatay (Chagatai, Ča'adai) Khanate were Turkified. The Ilkhanate and the Yuan 元 did not. No they didn't, because they were so few in number. Steppe nomads tend to adapt to foreign cultures very easily. Never heard something like that.

Sick world isn't it? Be tolerant and lose, or be intolerant and win. Yet the tolerant are considered barbaric. There's a lot of meaning behind Atabeg's signature: "I'd rather be a nomadic barbarian then a sedentary savage" - got a feeling his quote is going to follow me to my grave.

Timurland was incredible. He actually defeated the Ottomans near Ankara in 1402 and imprisioned Bayazid I,right after the Ottoman Empire started conquering the Balkans. Our asllep patriots and the one around us -Greek,Serbians and others didn't use this gap to overthrone the Turkish rule. This was one was the few chances right at the start of the Ottoman Quest.Anyway Timurlane also attacked many other contries and nations.Volga Bulgaria also fell over his raids. He had many military campaigns all over Central Asia. Here is wikipedia link :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timur I actually respect this guy a lot. Don't know.He is more sympatic for me than Chengiz Khan for example. ;D
