Very nice.I know about this Thracian Thomb.Once again it raised the myth of The great Thracians.Thracians were constantly in touch with the ancient greeks. And about Odrin,.Yes Odrin or Edirne was in Bulgarian lands, but unfortunatelly we lost it after the 2-nd Balkan war i think. I post some photos of Thracians : Thracians had a lot of conflicts with the Roman empire though, these two images do show so.

Edirne was under Bulgarian occupation for a very short time. Throughout most of it's history, it was either Roman or Turkish. I thought it was Iberian

Indeed, it was: A sword of the Cogotas II culture in Spain, which began about 700 BC. The shape is indistinguishable from the gladius hispanus.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladius

Hello, So,Iberian culture,This is interesting.I live in Spain thought and i know some things about it.I am more interested in Steppe history.Spain is a country with very rich history : One of the first signs and traces from human prehistorical existance were found exactly here on the Iberian peninsula. Later on beginning from 1 A.C forward many tribes from the north came to what is today called : Spain- The Vandals, the Suevi,The Visi or West goths, etc. Spain was also home of the Mystic celts ,who habities the atlantic coasts of West Europe normally. Also there is information about misterious nation of the Phoenicians/Fenikians coming near Iberian lands too. Afterwards was conquered from the Arab khalifate of the Ommayad dinasty.A quest who endured for nearly 8 century. Afterwards the Spanish made their great "La Conquista" - or the conquer of South America. It's funny isnt' it how things changed in the east and the west. Almost at the same time when Bulgaria fell under Ottoman rule,The Spanish get liberated.I will follow this bit more depper. It's like a ball pushed from one side to another. When the Arabs of Ommayadi began their expansion east and west and looking forward to enter in Europe back in 8 A.C they tried to enter first from the east.So they came to the very gates of Constantinople and besieged it in 717 leaded by Maslama with big amount of naval force and almost 200 000 men. In this East Arab operation they confront the allied forces of Vyzantines and Bulgarians. So eventually the Arabs lost and their expansion in East Europe was stopped. What happened after ? They moved westwards and headed up to Spain. And there they succeded. The Iberian peninsula (It was not even called Spain then,This name came from the Roman empire - Hispania later on )was called Al-Andaluz.And the reign of the Moors (African muslims or Mauritanians and the Arabs ) lasted for 8 centuries- from 711 to 1492 when they were expulsed from the Catalunian kings, the troops of the El Cid and Jaime I the conquerer. So as you can see the Muslim treath over Europe is constantly repeating throught time. I think we have to open a topic for Spain now...didn't we ;D Anyway,The Thracians had nothing to do with them. Possibly some Thracians did came on the Iberian peninsula in the ,because the Ancient Greeks,Mycenians,Arcadians,Spartans, etc used to cross the whole mediterranean up to Iberian lands. But this is other theme of course and the Greek history is huge ,so it will not be possible to say all here.I just got mixed in the information again. For now let's carry on with the Thracians.
Bye !

Now a bit of info over Spartacus identity and history. check this link : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpartacusSpartacus was a Thracian enslaved around 85 B.C in Thrace when the Roman legions under the comandship of Sula.He was from the tribe Medi.He was a gladiator in Capua, southern Italy. In 74 B.C he managed to escape with a lot of other gladiators and revolutionaries. The whole thing went alright,The group went north to the Alps and defeated several Roman legions, but then they turned south and reached the south point of Italian peninsula where tried to escape by boats.Eventually Spartacus was betrayed from Fenician sailors or pirates who were probably sobourned by the Romans. As a consequence of the victory of the Romans over Spartacus and his followers the rest of them -apr.6000 peoples were crusified on all the way from Capua to Rome. Most of the Heroes have a tragic death, but the death of Spartacus actually served as one of the hghest examples that the Roman empire was not unbeatable. The Romans actually almost anihilated the Thracians, but their culture remained. They are one of the most incredible peoples living on this planet. Attachments:

The period of existance of the Thracians is some 2000 years. Historically the name Thracians date back from 1500 B.C and it is believed that they came from the North-East and they were of Indo-European culture. As an end of the Thracians would be 6-7 A.C. century when they were assimilated from the Slavs and the Bulgars living in the area. The ones who lived in the south -from the Greeks. A siginificant role in the Thracian history was the horse. I do find a lot of similarities between the Thracians and the steppe nations.Maybe it's because the Thracians came from Asia too. Hi Asparuh, nice images, thanx Yes, I guess it's because the Thracians lived on the border with the Steppe Zone because just north of them were the Wallachian and Moldavian plains.

Thracians and Dacians were very closely related people, in fact they were of the same stock, but as far as I remember, the Dacians had some Celtic influences as well. Btw, Dacia became a Roman province only during Traianus' reign (died in 117)
